Kerry Caught Lying Again About Vietnam History

Several people have been covering this story (notably Captain Ed) but this made me laugh:

Sen. John Kerry's presidential campaign was scrambling Monday night to deal with new charges that he fabricated claims he was dispatched to Cambodia during the Vietnam War.
Confronted by Fox News Channel's Carl Cameron over the top Democrat's earlier accounts that he was in Cambodia in December 1968, the Kerry campaign at first denied their candidate had said any such thing.

Although it's hard to keep it up when your own journal entry contradicts you. Such denials have become standard operating procedure for the Kerry Campaign. Remember the Benedict Arnold CEOs speechwriters and throwing his medals away?

But after Cameron produced Kerry quotes from the Congressional Record and the Boston Globe, campaign officials retreated, telling the Fox reporter they'd have to get back to him.

And not only the Swift Vets, but Kerry's own crewmembers dispute his story:

"At least three of the five crewmen on Kerry's boat, Bill Zaldonis, Steven Hatch, and Steve Gardner, deny that they or their boat were ever in Cambodia."

I searched the Kerry web site, but either they've already edited out any references or the story didn't appear there in the first place. The Washington Times apparently had the same idea.

Meanwhile, even FoxNews gets part of it wrong, saying every living member of Kerry's crew backs up his story. What about Steve Gardner, who, according to Douglas Brinkley in Tour of Duty, was a crewmate of Kerry's and says the Swift Boat never got within 50 miles of Cambodia. Kerry's web site says otherwise, in one of the funniest press releases I've ever seen ("John Kerry eats dove. Even better, he shoots them", "He doesn't need a consultant to tell him how to dress like an alpha male," said his friend Ivan Schlager. "He is a damn alpha male." It is more complex than that, though. With Kerry it often is.)

You're telling me...but back to Cambodia:

"My good luck hat," Kerry said, happy to see it. "Given to me by a CIA guy as we went in for a special mission in Cambodia."

Gardner, by the way, is also a member of the Swift Boat Vets:

"My name is Steve Gardner. I served in 1966 and 1967 on my first tour of duty in Vietnam on Swift boats, and I did my second tour in '68 and '69, involved with John Kerry in the last 2 1/2 months of my tour. The John Kerry that I know is not the John Kerry that everybody else is portraying. I served alongside him and behind him, five feet away from him in a gun tub, and watched as he made indecisive moves with our boat, put our boats in jeopardy, put our crews in jeopardy... if a man like that can't handle that 6-man crew boat, how can you expect him to be our Commander-in-Chief?"

-- Steven Gardner

Meanwhile, has FreeRepublic.com caught another lie? Rev. David Alston apparently never served with Kerry.

But according to the Kerry site, he did:

David Alston, Kerry Crewmate & Gunner from PCF-94: “David Alston was the gunner atop Kerry's pilot house. Kerry, he told an audience here, was a compassionate commander. ‘We were in a lot of firefights,’ Alston said. ‘You learn a lot about people. After a firefight, John would come up to me and he would put his hand on me and he'd say, 'David, are you all right?’ ‘I didn't know then that I had a man of God on my boat,’ Kerry said. ‘That's probably why I'm here today’.” [Orlando Sentinel, 1/31/04]

UPDATE: Byron York of NRO did some additional research on the Alston story. Although Alston claims not to have been off the boat for more than 2 weeks (which would put him there after Feb. 15th), Fred Short, the gunner who replaced the wounded Alston aboard PCF 94 says Alston was gone for all of February and did not return until March:

According to Short, who supports the Kerry candidacy and appeared alongside Alston with Kerry at last month's convention, Alston was gone during the month of February and did not return to the boat until March. Short remembers going on his first patrol on PCF-94 on February 18, 1969 — he recalls the date clearly because it was his birthday. Short remembers taking part in his last operation on PCF-94 around March 4. He believes Alston returned a few days later.

The official record shows that Short won a Navy Commendation Medal on 2/28 for an action aboard PCF 94 and there is no mention of Alston in the after-action report. John Hurley, Kerry's campaign manager agreed, saying ""My understanding is that he [Alston] was gone for a month.... Fred [Short] was on the boat for about a month."

On a television show, however, Alston described the action as though he had been there. "I know when John Kerry told [crew member Del Sandusky] to beach that damn boat, this was a brand-new ball game," Alston told ABC's Nightline on June 22. "We wasn't running. We took it to Charlie."

Short says his last mission was 3/4, Hurley says Alston was present on 3/13 when Kerry won his Silver Star for pulling Rassmann from the river. The Kerry site and official records list only 2 combat actions during that period: on 3/12 and 3/13. So it appears that Alston may have been on the same boat with Kerry for anywhere from 7 to 13 days, during which there were only 2 combat incidents.

And so the Kerry Living History Exhibit continues... Continue to watch for more as history continues to unfold right before your eyes.

I get so tired of checking up on these people. A woman's work is never done...

Note to self: Never, ever, ever play golf with John Kerry. He'll lie his way to a 78 and attract divine lightning.

"What stops a liberal dimocrat - for his/her own advantage -from lying to your face? Absolutely nothing?

Especially, scum like Kerry.

You have to have a conscience to feel remorse.Someone should remind them it is critical to have one as a human being. In Kerry's case - there is a pattern here - one that you can see from his earliest childhood. It is called
nascency [In Kerry's case it just means being born or what obstetricians like to call, being harshly squeezed through the "Jaws of Life"]. It is obvious to me and others in the medical arena that someone just pushed too hard. That even explains his forbiddingly and physically strained countenance.

I got a special kick out of all his dimocrat buddies on TV today, that were talking being non partisan - and then running around to every CNN camera they could find and whining about how about Bush was nominating/appointing a Republican [Goss] to the CIA. When asked could he do the job, every stinking dimocrat said he could. So what's the problem? [He asks naively] I guess they just don't think he should be a non dimocrat.Terrorists? Oh, that is just something that the "Evil Bush invented". I have news for the dimocrats -Terrorists- don't care who the head of the CIA is. It is all about timing. Especially when you don't have one. Democratic Party members just can't rise above the political scum for our safety and well being? To me all this is tantamount to calling Goss a traitor to his country and resisting their sworn duties. Parties irregardless. The President should stop being nice and bitch slap them silly. I guess for them only accepting a dimocrat would be considered non partisan or patriotic. Our forefathers are turning over in their graves. What ever happened to the two party system? When it is time of peril - Don't we all become - just Americans?
Just because a conservative gets nominated/appointed. Bleeders! They also neglect to remember that the former head of the CIA who served the evil scum "Clinton" and up till recently, "the Peoples President" - Bush - was a dimocrat. Geez - what happened - to 9/11? Partisan dimocrats plus a tolerant and conservative Partisan make strange bed-fellows. I hope Bush uses this to every political advantage. These guys really think you can have your political cake and eat it to. They truly use this countries impuissance to their political advantage. During a time of war.? Outright traitorous!Something they conveniently charge G.W.. with. I am convinced beyond all reasonable doubt that they couldn't give a terrorist's turban about America or our security. I can honestly say that the removal of all these political, liberal extortionists would be a blessing from God. I am praying earnestly. I didn't know a polite way to say this, other than they deserve a hot lightning bolt of moralistic judgment right up their flatulent, spewing cob holes [mouth holes] and an extended stay in that hot sulphuric inferno, called Hell. I being a somewhat compassionate Doctor, would even settle for Wichita Falls, Texas.

I would now like to take the higher ground, turn my other cheek and cr*p in their liberally elected, politically usurp-ring, lobbyist loaned, "Vote for Kerry", [Star Buck] coffee mugs. Good morning....I can highly recommend this to everyone. At $4.50 a shot they wouldn't even notice the difference.. Rant off....

Perhaps the good Doctor will prescribe something for the nation's impuissance?
Cialis in the water supply, non?

Posted by: spd rdr at Aug 11, 2004 12:32:49 PM

Gosh Doc, bad morning?
Okay, who's suprised that the Democrats are giving GWB and Porter Goss flack over the nomination to DCI? Let's see hands.
Hmmmm. Not many, not many.
Okay, now let's ask Bruce Springsteen, Dave Matthews and the 12 year old girl that spoke at the DNC; Who should run the CIA? How about asking Alec Baldwin? Janeane Garofolo?
C'mon, this is a democracy. Bushitler Cheney-Haliburton don't run everything yet.
By the way, is there a connection between Porter Goss and Haliburton revealed yet?

There's always the possibility that Porter Goss may be way more efficient at running CIA than anybody has been in years, and a lot of dirty laundry may be hung out to dry.

Clinically speaking: At this time I couldn't even recommend Cialis to the people that sit back and let the libbys ruin this country. They really need a drug that is designed for curvature of the spine. Something that explicates backbone.

Erectile dysfunction in the dimocratic party hasn't really never been a medical problem. They have always managed to find a prodigious and rigid party member to sway the dimocratic party. Sway more and more to the left - that is...

I can honestly say I have never observed a bigger collection of erectile political phalli in my years of medical/political practise.

When Hillary runs for President, the medical adjectives will change entirely...we will all be standing as close to the edge as we can...

A doctor could even even say clinically

"Very close to the prepuce"

Cheers,
Harden

..
So your professional opinion is that the DNC is suffering from Peyronie's Disease? :)

Posted by: Cassandra at Aug 11, 2004 1:14:12 PM

Don,

I am not really surprised. I am constantly amazed how many people are so quiet about it.
The hypocrisy has become so plain they don't even attempt to hide it. This isn't about parties. I guess I have more faith in my fellow American unlike people like Boxer, Kerry and Kennedy. I don't think people are actually morally/politically stupid.I don't think we need them/the government to enlighten us with their feigned intelligence. I just wish the people would be more vocal and castigate the political usurpers. I am tired of used car salesman [predominately liberals] running our country into the ground. It is time to tell them to shut up! Maybe some of us are starting to wake up.

Plus - ranting is what is really good about being the Doctor... and yes I always have crappy mornings....Heh...Heh....Heh...

Cheers,
Harden

Cassandra,

Not being able to see the x-rays,but being a HMO medical professional and not being confined to medical guide lines, it is my humble, medical opion that the answer would be yes.

Of course,as a Doctor, I would never want to "point" someone in the wrong direction. I would certainly insist that they see a specialist.Or as they call it at Kaiser [Pass the Buck]. I am convinced there was a medical reason why Clinton wore boxers...

I am not entirely convinced that maybe Hillary suffers from the same disfunction. Although, it would be more of a enviousness on her part and should be treated with a placebo.

Posted by: Dr. Harden Stuhl at Aug 11, 2004 1:35:55 PM

A placebo for Hitlery?
Hm. IS there such a thing as a Bill wannabe?

I was thinking of Pyrenie Envy, considering the Phreudian nature of this morning's comments, and I did take the test and well, it is as expected. I am more uptight that most of JetNoise but do I complain to my fellow
Noisers? No. Do I join in? Yes. Immensely relieved? You betcha. So much for being up tight.

Cricket:

You are not uptight, you are a Lady, which is more than I can say for myself. Don't change.

Posted by: Cassandra at Aug 11, 2004 2:58:19 PM

I like both your attitudes. It is what makes us all indivduals. Forgive me if I got a little crass. I get into character and sometimes forget who I am.

As for Hitlery - I wasn't implying that a women should not be President. Just not her.
I would vote for a real woman in a heart beat. And not only becuase they can multi task better than men. Something the leader of the free world should probably be able to do.

Posted by: Dr. Humble Harden at Aug 11, 2004 4:02:29 PM

La Femme Crickita: You're one of the best parts here, don't ever change.

Dr Stuhl: I would vote for a real woman with a real heartbeat. Nothing that Hillary has even remotely resembles a heart.

Purple,
I was quaffing my morning lemonade and cleaned up my monitor.

You and Cass are awesome. Cassandra has helped me get in touch with my inner brain.
That is the one that shuts down when the logic function gets overridden with liberal drivel.

I love Jet Noise precisely because of Joat and Cass doing a LOT of work and research out of love. A blog is a labor of love. It has to be.

One of the things that I firmly believe in is free speech and the Internet represents something beyond a newspaper or a telecast.
It is a live medium, interactive and totally
open and I have to say, we all do a great job of policing ourselves.

I agree. Hitlery has ice water for blood and a pump for a heart. She will get a vampire as a running mate (Janet Reno, anyone?).

Cass, you are a Lady too, as is the CKC.
We just feel more comfortable here. You have made it that way.

Love all of you because of what you have done for me.
