Crank It Up

I shouldn't laugh at this, but I desperately needed a good laugh today.  From Matt over at Blackfive:

Next, I have a report from Seamus and Colonel Don Myers that the Marine Hymn is being played in order to have the terrorists come out of hiding in Fallujah.  Apparently, something about it causes them to come out of their holes to die.  This is from a radio report about the Marines:

'I must tell you that just when the Marines have cleared an area...,  a short time later there may be a fierce fire fight with insurgents that were in hiding.  But an interesting report from a Marine Colonel..., just a few days ago the Marines celebrated another birthday and the Colonel played the Marine Corps Hymn on a loud speaker.  This prompted a fierce gun battle from hiding insurgents.  The Colonel was very pleased that those insurgents were promptly dispatched..., and the Colonel plans on playing the Marine Corps Hymn everyday... and frequently...!'

Meanwhile the lamestream media are doing everything in their power to portray Fallujah as a miserable failure. Without having had time to read up on the latest scandal to come out of the war " Extra: crappy things happen in wartime.", let me just say this:

First, why don't we all just take a big step back? We don't need to comment, or judge, or stare in horror, or disbelief, or morbid curiosity at the spectacle.  Just let the investigation run its course without second-guessing what this poor guy should have done.

And second, I am getting really tired of linking to Jeff Goldstein today, so if he could just start spouting useless tripe or something, we could all go back to normal.

Third, this really makes me angry.  God rest her soul.

As a kid, I read "Guadalcanal Diary", and as I remember it, after one particular bloody firefight with the Japs on the island (something like 700-800 killed, few prisoners, sorry), the Marines went about shooting the dead AGAIN to make sure that they were really dead, and not just "faking it" to get at them in a final suicide attack. Pretty gruesome.
But that was then, and this is now, so I guess that makes all the difference.
By the way, do "partisans" fighting out of uniform, with no national flag or rank, insignia or other identification, have protection under the Geneva Protocols? Just asking.
I wonder what Mrs. Hassan's protections were under the Geneva Convention Protocols, as an unarmed civilian?

Yeah...war's pretty crappy, isn't it?

Sometimes one might almost think the point was to kill the bad guys... but they'd be wrong. It's to avoid being accused of anything untoward.

I loved that movie. James Clavell is an awesome writer.

No, civilians do not have the protection of the Geneva convention if they are out of uniform. By the same token, the 'freedom fighters' who hide behind civilians are also fair game.

One other thing: Niether Iraq NOR the insurgents abide by it, so why should we?

The link isn't working, and since it is the Seattle comPost nonIntelligencer, need I say more? The Tacoma News Tribune is MUCH better.

I am in tears. I am praying for her family and her husband. I am also hoping that lightning will strikes these creeps dead, but sometimes, I believe God allows evil to flourish so that their vile acts (which they gleefully televise) will be known.

I remember reading a phrase in the OT (I think) when Israel had murdered the prophets, and their blood cried to God from the ground.
May it be so with her blood as well as those who worked and died to liberate Iraq not just from physical oppression, but from mental
oppression as well.

Interesting...they must have pulled the article. I tested the link when I put it up.

I'll find another - thanks for letting me know Cricket.

CARE USA's HQ is in Atlanta. I have some really good friends who work there, one of whom is an auditor that has been everywhere in the world that sucks to audit on site the local opperations. CARE is a great organization at carrying out its mission and has a very low overhead (or said another way, a high percentage of its budget goes to its mission rather than overhead). I know some here care about that kind of thing. It is worthy of consideration for your donation dollar.

CARE operated in Iraq for years with Margaret Hassan as its head. She married a local and cared for the people Saddam p*ssed on for years. Whoever did this deserves slow and painful progression to an ultimate sand nap. Her death did nothing to improve Iraq for its people. She had nothing to do with the war and was there before it was even thought about. Her death is a sad day. I hope it only strengthens the resolve of everyone including the local Iraqi people that she and CARE helped for years.

Damn, I am going to have to make more money, or buy a lottery ticket, I hear the odds are really good with that.

I think it is safe to say, in the long run, Margaret Hassan will be mentioned in the press far few times than the young Marine who is being demonized.

Well, if she had been granted a cigarette as a last request, who knows? She might have been blamed for the whole war.

I agree with KJ.

I think the sad part is they WANT to bite the hand that feeds them. They have too... Without ignorance.. they will wither and die.. A teacher is to be honest.. more dangerous to them then a soldier. The soldier will defeat them on the battlefield.. the teacher.. will deny them a battlefield.
