Help The Marines Keep Their Cool

coolties2 From Deb at Marine Corps Moms:

Imagine sitting inside a furnace with someone tossing sand in your face through an industrial strength fan. If you're wearing full body armor and carrying a weapon, you might be in Iraq. My son said that after 8 hours of post duty last year, he'd pour a pint of sweat out of each of his boots - and trying to sleep in 115 degree heat was impossible. He'd doze off and wake up in a pool of sweat....

This is what our guys are living with over there. 25 years ago, I was pregnant and living in an apartment in Williamsburg, VA and we couldn't afford air conditioning. It was only 95 degrees in our apartment, but sleep was impossible on hot summer nights - I can't imagine what it is like for these Marines. But Deb over at Marine Corps Moms has a great idea and she needs our help. If you have a sewing machine, can sew a straight seam (that's all it takes!) or just have a few bucks, you can do something to help our make life a whole lot more bearable for our Marines.

They're sacrificing a lot for us - here's your chance to show your appreciation. Email me, or let me know via the comments section if you are willing to help. I will coordinate with Deb - she says the need is great.

And a great BIG thank you to CKC for bringing this to my attention - I usually check out Marine Corps Moms daily, but due to my recent move I haven't been reading many blogs and so I missed this entirely. Even after she emailed me about it, I was a tad bit overwhelmed, so I didn't get to posting until today. But I have found my sewing machine and am going to contact my Mom and sister-in-law and see if they are willing to help. If I can find the time between my full-time job, unpacking boxes, and blogging, I hope some of you will consider helping out. You won't be sorry :)

At first I thought "Ties? Casandra wants to make the poor sweating sons of Montezuma wear TIES? How could she be so cruel? So EVIL?"

Now I realize that these are magic ties! Instead of being the oppressive neck ropes men are forced by The Man to wear daily, these are cool-dude ties! Great! Now how do I give money to somebody who can sew?

Well, I don't need any, but I will coordinate with Deb. There may be people or groups who want to sew but don't have $$ for supplies. Let me check with her and I'll email you.

I'll be happy to organize - that's one thing I can do. And thanks :)
